21世紀初頭に開始されたウォーターラインシリーズのリニューアルと、2005年に公開された映画『男たちの大和』の社会的影響により艦船模型は空前の発展を遂げ、模型メーカー各社から新金型キットが相次いで発売されるまでに至りました。また、同時にアップデートパーツとして、キットでは再現困難な繊細な部分を表現できる多様なエッチングパーツが開発され、製作の定番アイテムとなりました。しかし、一方で製作難易度の高まりは、艦船模型への敷居の高さを生む原因ともなりました。そして2024年現在。幅を効かせていたエッチングパーツは影を潜め、3Dプリント技術で再現された超精巧な3Dプリントパーツが、キットパーツをそのまま置き換えるアップデートパーツの定番となりつつあります。そうです、初心者でも超絶モデリングを行える時代となったのです。今月号では艦船模型用3Dプリントパーツの使い方のコツと、使用で得られる効果を見ていきましょう。
