飛行機模型スペシャル NO.41
●特集：タンクバスター 対戦車専用航空機の栄枯盛衰
WWIIにおいて、戦車は陸上戦闘の要であり、主力兵器として絶対的な存在だった。戦車全般の弱点として上面装甲の薄さが挙げられるが、ここを攻めるには空からの攻撃、航空機による攻撃が効果的であるとされ、様々な専任機が開発された。既存の機体に大口径の機関砲を装備した改造機は数多作られ、非常に高い効果があったと言われている。冷戦期になると、新たに登場したヘリコプターに安定性と機動力が備わり、性能が向上したロケット弾やミサイルを装備した攻撃ヘリがその任務に当たることになり、著しい進化を遂げた。しかし冷戦期の、核兵器ありきの戦略下に於いて、主力戦闘機、攻撃機はそれに準じた設計開発となり、近接航空支援や地上攻撃などは軽視されていた。その中で戦訓などから再び必要性は高まり、A-10とSu-25が誕生した。昨今の誘導兵器のさらなる発達、そして無人ドローン機の本格運用で、「対戦車専用航空機」は終焉を迎えてしまうのか…。今号では、第２次世界大戦期から現代までの「対戦車専用航空機」の系譜を、代表的な機体の作例を交えて辿ります。

● Special Feature: Tank Busters - The Rise and Fall of Anti-Tank Aircraft
During WWII, tanks were the backbone of ground warfare and the absolute main weapon.
The thin upper armor of tanks was their weak point, and attacking this from the air with aircraft was considered to be effective. Various dedicated aircraft were developed for this purpose. Modified planes equipped with large-caliber machine guns were produced in large numbers and were said to have had a very high effectiveness. During the Cold War, helicopters appeared with stability and maneuverability, and attack helicopters equipped with improved rockets and missiles became responsible for this task, achieving remarkable evolution. However, under the strategy centered around nuclear weapons during the Cold War, the design and development of main combat and attack aircraft were based on this, and close air support and ground attacks were neglected. In the midst of this, the necessity arose again from combat experience, and the A-10 and Su-25 were born. With the further development of guided weapons and the full-scale operation of unmanned drone aircraft in recent years, will "anti-tank aircraft" meet its demise? In this issue, we will trace the genealogy of "anti-tank aircraft" from the WWII era to the present day, with examples of representative aircraft.
